Very simply yoga can be broken up into three areas, each complementing the other.

  • Meditation is the spiritual essence of yoga. Through meditation we can start to bring into our lives greater understanding of who we are, our purpose for being here and where real happiness lies. Meditation provides insights into the workings of the mind and emotions. It further helps you develop clarity and wisdom, gaining a greater understanding of life. The art of meditation has been practiced by saints and sages to bring about the joyful state of self-realisation. In this consciousness a person is free from temporary worries, anxieties and concerns and is immersed in a higher spiritual happiness and inner peacefulness.
  • Breathing techniques allow the body to relax and let go of tension, enhancing one’s ability to deal with stressful situations. These techniques deeply rejuvenate the whole body; you will feel fresh and enlivened. Because of the connection between the breath, the emotions and the mind (“just take a deep breath and relax”) your mind calms and becomes clearer and more focused.
  • The yoga asanas tone the body and give it energy, vitality and endurance. In addition, they benefit the circulatory, respiratory, digestive and hormonal systems. Along with a healthy and nutritious diet all contribute to keeping the physical body functioning efficiently. The beautiful thing about yoga is that it’s not competitive. You work at your own pace, listening to your body, gradually encouraging it to stretch and strengthen when it’s ready.

  • Yoga and the circulatory system:
