Weaving together sacred mantras, modern melodies and rockin grooves the Kirtan Band invite us on a spiritual journey through sacred sound. The repetition of the mantras cleanses the heart and mind and helps us remember our true spiritual nature, who we really are.
Kirtan is a practice for cultivating spiritual freedom, Kirtan nourishes the soul. Simply by listening to these mantras we can gradually become purified and enlightened and begin to taste that happiness for which we are always searching.
The first Kirtan of the evening starts slow and sweet, the band masterfully constructing ebbs and flows that have people quietly swaying in meditative reverie. In the second Kirtan after dinner the mood becomes more festive, the energy, beat and rhythms pick up. It’s got a groove, people are clapping, moving, singing from the heart, dancing, celebrating the harmonious loving relationship between each individual soul and Supreme Soul. You can’t help but smile and you notice that all the others around you are smiling as well, there is a profound experience of connectedness.
Kirtan is not about being an expert singer or a great musician. Kirtan is not a concert to be entertained by. One of the amazing things about kirtan is that it is fully participatory, every person, every voice and every pair of hands is as an important an instrument as any other and contributes to the dynamics and shifts of every chant. The best Kirtans are those where everyone is immersed in relishing the transcendental sound.
Please note that the Kirtan can get very “spirited” (and loud) in the second half as this is a Mantra ROCK Dance with full electric band.
The Mantra Rock Dance crew also provides a fantastic vegetarian dinner that will tantalise the tastebuds and give you the energy to rock the night away.
